Luke 17:32 - Remember Lot's wife.
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
These two scriptures came to my mind at the same time today. I did not study out what Luke was trying to say - just had these two scriptures come to my mind.
Often times we become careless and have our focus on the things behind us. We take our eyes off of the prize and like Peter we begin to sink into the sea of despair.
Or like Lot's wife, we turn into a pillar of salt. Nothing wrong with salt in the correct amount. A little bit adds flavor, too much makes you want to spit it out. A little salt can help heal/clean a cut but I won't pour a whole jar in an open wound.
Looking unto Jesus ... if we are looking in the right direction, our words and our actions will most likely reflect what we are seeing. If we are looking backwards, well, our words and our actions will most likely reflect what we are seeing.
There is a time for reflection, but you better keep your eyes on the road you plan to travel.

True...so true. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with that to an extent. Experience, though, is a harsh teacher and most of us don't want to learn the same pain-staking lesson twice. But balancing things out too, living in the past is no future which is the point, I gather, you were trying to make. Not looking back and wanting to indulge in our past sins, is what I gather from the scripture you've chosen. Is this correct?

Yes you are right. I thought about following up with a statement along the lines you mentioned about experience being the best teacher.
This post could have went a little deeper to describe people who are always dwelling on the past, and talking about problems. If they had dealt with the problems in a Biblical manner, they would not be so bitter. If their intentions were pure, instead of lashing out at other "groups" they would be trying to mend the tattered relationships. I beleive some are like Lot's wife; they are looking back because they really miss where they were at one time. Maybe they are just too bitter to admit it.
Hi Mike! Enjoyed the post. Continually looking back serves a purpose of seeing where we came from and how much progress we have made, but it does nothing to bring about advancement. This only comes by looking up and forward! Onward and upward!
:) Perhaps you're right about that. I think I follow your thought now. But, again, only God can melt the ice, and sometimes, once "certain bridges" have been crossed, there could be reason why it wouldn't or couldn't be crossed again though not "burned".
Thought provoking post, honey. I never thought about those scriptures in that way before.
Back2theBible:
Good thoughts. I agree we need to look back to reflect on certain things. Just cautioning against getting wrapped up in the past, which you picked up on. Good to hear from you again.
